mdiber, We are very aware of the cultural norms. The main thrust of the book is to say the Bible is above culture. When a person becomes a Christian he or she must look at his or her life and change. Polygamy is popular and they say we find it in the Bible. We find murder in the Bible too but that does not mean we all go out and murder. It is time to confront the traditions and culture! One cannot be a Christian and still maintain an African worldview. I am not saying everything in the African worldview is bad. Let us challenge our worldview in light of scripture. By God's grace a worldview must be biblical.

So glad you posted this. I'm very interested in your marriage book. we moved into the city of Lancaster three years ago and are involved in an inner city church plant. For that past couple of months we have been involved with a black couple who are not married. Hardly anyone in their family is and then there there all the 'ex's' and the children from those unions. It makes my head spin! But this is really more the norm than what I know! Our pastor is working with them and we live down the street and we enjoy being with each other so we see a lot of each other.Do you address what the cultural norms are that make this okay, even among professing believers? Nice to hear you! I think if you click on my name you can trace me to my blog. I've been a bit sluggish lately but there it is!
